About

Kinmen Wudao City God Temple is the largest and most popular temple in Kinmen, serving as the islands' spiritual center. The annual 'Kinmen City God Festival' on the 12th day of the 4th lunar month commemorates the 1680 relocation of the administrative center by General Chen Long, and is listed among Taiwan's top 100 religious sceneries. The grand parade features elaborate floats and traditional performance troupes.

History

The original temple dates to 1387 when the Kinmen military garrison was established. In 1663, the Qing Dynasty's coastal evacuation policy led to its destruction. In 1680, General Chen Long relocated the administrative center to Houpu, bringing the City God worship with him. The temple was rebuilt in 1811 with community fundraising, and expanded in 1994 to its current scale.
