About

Pingtung Jiuru Sanshan Guowang Temple is one of the oldest Three Mountain Kings temples in Taiwan and a designated national monument. It witnesses the Liudui Hakka community's pioneering history on the Pingtung Plain. The architecture preserves a strong Hakka temple style — simple yet solemn. Ancient Qing Dynasty steles and plaques inside record the hardships of Hakka settlers in southern Taiwan. The temple remains a vital center for Hakka worship, community meetings, and cultural identity.

History

Founded around 1700 during the Kangxi era by early Hakka immigrants from Guangdong. At that time, the Pingtung Plain was a frontier between indigenous territories and Han settlers. The Hakka pioneers brought the incense of Sanshan Guowang from their homeland and built this temple as both spiritual anchor and community center. Major renovations during the Daoguang era established its current layout. Designated a national monument for its historical and Hakka cultural significance.
