Baosheng Dadi

Legends say he 'healed a dragon's eye and cured a tiger's throat' (removing a stuck bone, which is why the Tiger Lord became his guardian). Even after deification, he reportedly healed the Empress of the Ming Dynasty.

Devotees worship Baosheng Dadi with offerings of fruits, incense, and the traditional "Three Sacrificial Animals." A unique feature of Baosheng Dadi worship is the practice of "Divine Prescriptions" (shen yao qian): worshippers draw fortune sticks and receive herbal medicine formulas, which they then take to traditional Chinese pharmacies to fill — a practice that blended religion and healthcare in early Taiwan. The deity's birthday celebrations at Baoan Temple include the "Fire Lion" ritual, where a paper lion stuffed with firecrackers is ignited, symbolizing the expulsion of evil and disease.

The "Baosheng Cultural Festival" at Taipei's Baoan Temple is the premier event, featuring a month-long series of activities from March to April on the lunar calendar. Highlights include the "Fire Lion" (Fang Huo Shi) ceremony — a uniquely Taiwanese ritual found nowhere else — where a paper-and-bamboo lion packed with fireworks is set ablaze in an explosive display. Traditional arts performances, Taoist ceremonies, and a grand procession through the Dalongdong neighborhood are also featured. In 2003, Baoan Temple won the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award, bringing international recognition to this cultural celebration.
