Confucius

Master Kong | The Great Sage

Introduction

Confucius is the great Chinese philosopher, educator, and founder of Confucianism. Revered as the 'Great Sage' and 'Model Teacher for Ten Thousand Ages'. While not a Taoist deity, he holds a high place in Taiwanese folk belief with Confucius Temples across the island. Students pray to him for wisdom and academic success, especially during exam seasons. The Confucius Ceremony is a major cultural tradition in Taiwan.

Legend & Origin

Born in the State of Lu during the Spring and Autumn Period, Confucius advocated for Benevolence, Righteousness, Propriety, Wisdom, and Trust. He traveled to various states to promote his political philosophy and dedicated his later years to education and editing ancient texts. His teachings, recorded in the 'Analects', have profoundly influenced East Asian culture.
